Frédéric Coridon

Description

Set of 30 ocular prostheses also called glass eyes
European work
Around 1900
Glass, resin and pigments
Height: 2 cm; Length: approximately 2.5 cm

Each glass eye is different and comes in the form of a hemisphere or half-shell cut from glass or milky white resin, centered with a painted iris and sometimes embellished with a few blood vessels to accentuate the trompe-l'oeil effect.

These ocular prostheses, custom-made by an ocularist for a particular patient, were placed at the level of the eyeball – the eye having been completely or partially removed.
