Abstract sculpture by Pol Spilliaert (1985)

Description

“A Mathematician’s Miraculous Hiking Trail,” black marble, 1985 by Belgian sculptor Pol Spilliaert (1935-2023). His sculptures reflect the artist’s signature style by combining organic and geometric forms, creating an interesting sense of tension. Spilliaert studied sculpture at the La Cambre Academy of Art in Brussels, where he was taught by figures such as modernist architect Leon Stynen, of which he was a laureate in 1959. This work is listed on page 69 of the book on Pol Spilliaert by Jaak Fontier, published by Lannoo.
